DiNapoli Probe Prompts $15,000 Restitution

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced that former Bombay Fire Company President Bridget Martin was sentenced to pay $15,000 in restitution after an audit and investigation by his office uncovered secret bank accounts and other misdeeds.

Martin, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Bombay Town Court to misdemeanor larceny and was sentenced to three years probation, after the Comptroller’s office found that she opened a secret bank account, wrote 98 checks for cash and took out an unauthorized $10,000 line of credit.

“This sentencing sends another strong message that we will pursue the wrongdoing of individuals who abuse their position for personal gain,” DiNapoli said. “I’m grateful for the efforts of the New York State Police and Franklin County District Attorney Derek P. Champagne’s office to bring this person to justice.”

DiNapoli encourages the public to help fight fraud and abuse. New Yorkers can report allegations of fraud involving taxpayer money by calling the toll-free Fraud Hotline at 1-888-672-4555, by filing a complaint online at, or by mailing a complaint to: Office of the State Comptroller, Investigations Unit, 14th Floor, 110 State St., Albany, NY 12236.
