Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority
Y2K Compliance: Light-Rail and Bus Operations The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority uses three automated information systems to monitor and control its buses and light-rail trains. In addition, some of the mechanical systems for the light-rail trains rely on embedded computer programming. We reviewed the actions taken by the Authority in attempting to ensure that activities dependent on these automated systems and embedded computer programming are not significantly disrupted because of data processing difficulties related to the year 2000. We found the Authority is taking many of the actions needed to prevent such difficulties. However, the vendors that provide the machinery and equipment with embedded computer programming have not indicated when these items will be Y2K compliant. As a result, the Authority may not have enough time to resolve any unforeseen difficulties with these items.
