Y2K Compliance: Unemployment Insurance System and Unemployment Insurance Employer Contribution System

The Department of Labor maintains the Unemployment Insurance System, which is used in administering unemployment insurance benefit payments in New York State. The Department also maintains the Unemployment Insurance Employer Contribution System, which is used to track the unemployment insurance contributions made by employers. We reviewed the actions taken by the Department in attempting to ensure that activities dependent on these two systems are not significantly disrupted because of data processing difficulties related to the year 2000. We found the Department is taking many of the actions needed to prevent such difficulties. However, because of delays that were encountered in remediating certain aspects of the Employer Contribution System, the Department may not have time to address any additional unforeseen difficulties that are encountered in remediating this system.
