Delivery of Services and Selected Financial Management Practices

The Brooklyn Public Library includes a central library and 58 branch libraries. We evaluated the Library's delivery of services and determined that services might be delivered more effectively if changes were made in branch operating hours. We also determined that fewer children than intended were served by a program that encourages children to read. We further determined that books and other materials are not adequately protected against theft and loss, and according to industry standards, many of the Library's books are outdated. In addition, the Library's use of State funds is not monitored by the State Education Department.
