Department of Health
AIDS Institute (Follow-Up Review) The Department of Health's AIDS Institute seeks to prevent the spread of AIDS and coordinates a system of care for people infected with the AIDS virus. In our prior audit report 95-S-46, we examined the efficiency of an Institute program for providing prescription drugs to people infected with the AIDS virus. We found that between $1.1 and $1.8 million a year in administrative costs could be saved if this program were merged with a similar Department program for providing prescription drugs to the elderly. We also noted that program effectiveness could be improved if the recommendations made by an internal evaluation unit were implemented. In our follow-up review, we found that significant progress has been made by Department officials in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report.
