Department of Health
Hospital Monitoring Programs
(Follow-Up Review) The Department of Health monitors the quality of
care provided by most of the hospitals operating in New York. Our prior audit report 94-S-53 found that the Department's inspections of hospitals duplicated some aspects of the
inspections conducted by a private accrediting organization. We also found that while the
Department made use of some performance indicators, the development of a comprehensive
set of indicators would greatly improve the Department's monitoring ability. In our follow-up
review, we found that all our prior audit recommendations have been fully implemented.
