Health Science Center at Stony Brook: Clinical Practice Management Plan (Follow-Up Review) The Health Science Center at Stony Brook operates a teaching hospital and a nursing home for veterans. Patients at the hospital and nursing home may be treated by faculty from the Center's medical school. The revenue generated by this medical care is regulated by the Center's clinical practice management plan. In our prior audit report 94-S-34, we examined how the clinical practice revenue was used and found that the compensation paid to some faculty significantly exceeded the established limits. We also identified expenditures that were not necessary for business purposes, and determined that a surplus of $4 million had not been set aside for the benefit of the medical school, as required. We made recommendations to address these problems and, in our follow-up review, found that progress has been made in implementing these recommendations.
