School Violence Prevention and Response (Follow-Up Review) Each school district in New York is required to establish a comprehensive plan for preventing and responding to violence in the districtís schools. In our prior report 99-S-43, we examined the extent to which such plans had been developed in 50 randomly selected districts. We found that plans had yet to be formalized in most of the districts, and the plans that had been developed were not always consistent with the recommendations of safety experts. In our follow-up review, we found that the State Education Department and New York City Board of Education had made considerable progress in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report.
