Professional Development - Auditors

At the Office of the State Comptroller, we are committed to maintaining a positive image of professionalism, objectivity and independence. Maintaining a highly qualified, credentialed and experienced workforce is one of our primary goals. In accordance with this goal, we encourage and support the continuing professional development of each member of our audit team.

As an auditor with our office, you will receive continuous training in a wide variety of areas, such as compliance, financial and performance auditing.

You will also get up-to-date training in technology issues, such as auditing in a Local Area Network environment and using computer-aided auditing techniques.

As part of our team, you will be encouraged to pursue lifelong learning and to seek professional certifications and advanced degrees. Many of our auditors are Certified Public Accountants, Certified Internal Auditors, Certified Information Systems Auditors, Certified Fraud Examiners and Certified Government Financial Managers. We provide opportunities for your qualifying experience for certification in our Office of State and Local Government Accountability and in our Division of Contracts and Expenditures.

Just as important, you will receive diversified work experience to further your professional development. Our on-the-job training will provide you with the expertise to audit, manage, plan and work effectively with others.

We encourage our auditors to participate in a wide range of professional organizations. Many of our auditors belong to professional associations like the Association of Government Accountants, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Our auditors are actively involved in these organizations and many hold offices and participate on the Board of Directors of local chapters.

Finally, New York State and the Public Employees Federation share a commitment to the on-going professional development of the State's work force through the Public Service Training Program (PSTP). PSTP Voucher and Voucher Alternative programs offer specialized training courses and tuition assistance to employees.
