Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to review the District’s claims processing for the period July 1, 2014 through January 31, 2016.

Background

The Shenendehowa Central School District is located in the Towns of Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Ballston, Malta, Stillwater and Waterford in Saratoga County. The District, which operates 13 schools with approximately 9,800 students, is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Education. Budgeted appropriations for the 2015-16 fiscal year totaled approximately $163 million.

Key Finding

  • District officials have established appropriate procedures over the claims processing function to ensure that claims were properly itemized and supported; the goods or services had been received and were for proper purposes; and the claims were audited and approved prior to payment.
