Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the District’s management of reserves for the period July 1, 2014 through September 3, 2015.

Background

The Pelham Union Free School District is located in the Town of Pelham, Westchester County. The District, which operates six schools with approximately 2,800 students, is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Education. Budgeted appropriations for the 2014-15 fiscal year totaled approximately $67 million.

Key Finding

  • The retirement contribution reserve fund balance increased by more than $2.2 million from fiscal year 2011-12 to fiscal year 2014-15.

Key Recommendation

  • Ensure that the excess funds in the retirement contribution reserve account are used to fund operations in a manner that benefits District residents.
