Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the District’s procurement procedures for obtaining professional services for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

Background

The Brookhaven-Comsewogue Union Free School District is located in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County. The District, which operates six schools with approximately 3,700 students, is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Education. General fund expenditures for the 2014-15 fiscal year totaled approximately $79.9 million.

Key Finding

  • District officials have established a comprehensive purchasing policy and procedures that provide guidance as to when items must be competitively bid and when proposals or quotes should be obtained for purchases not required to be competitively bid.
