Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to determine whether the Board ensured that goods and services were procured in accordance with the District’s procurement policy for the period January 1, 2016 through July 25, 2017.

Background

The Walden Fire District No. 2 is a district corporation of the State, distinct and separate from the Town of Cheektowaga in Erie County. The District is governed by an elected five-member Board of Fire Commissioners. Budgeted appropriations for 2017 totaled $501,784.

Key Finding

• District officials did not obtain quotes in accordance with the District’s procurement policy during the audit period for 27 purchases totaling $77,044.

Key Recommendation

• Ensure that District officials involved in the purchasing process comply with the policy.
