We examined payment requests and related payments the Department of Labor (DOL) processed for the Unemployment Insurance Program (UI) during the period January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011. Our examination identified 9,781 inappropriate payment requests and payments totaling almost $2.5 million. This includes $1,096,573 in inappropriate payments and 1,393,974 in potential payments that would have been paid over the life of the UI claim had DOL not taken corrective action based on our findings.
