Division of Criminal Justice Services
Y2K Compliance: Criminal Justice Systems The Division of Criminal Justice Services maintains the Computerized Criminal History System (which is the central repository of criminal history information in New York), the Wanted System (which is used to track wanted or missing persons), and the Statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System (which is used to store fingerprints). We reviewed the actions taken by the Division in attempting to ensure that activities dependent on these systems are not significantly disrupted because of data processing difficulties related to the year 2000. We found the Division is taking many of the actions needed to prevent such difficulties. However, the remediation of the Statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System has fallen behind schedule, and contingency plans are needed for all three systems to ensure that services are not disrupted if data processing difficulties are encountered in relation to the year 2000.
