State Education Department
School District Health Services (Follow-Up Review) School districts outside New York City, Buffalo and Rochester are required by State law to provide certain health services to students. In the three exempt cities, student health services are governed by local requirements. In our prior audit report 96-S-6, we found that fewer health services were provided to students in the three exempt cities, the health services required by law need to be updated to conform with current medical practices, and the health services provided by the school districts could be monitored more closely by the Department. In our follow-up review, we found that actions have been taken by Department officials to address all of the recommendations contained in our prior report.
