Office of Children and Family Services
Child Protective Services Program In the Child Protective Services Program, which is overseen by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), local social services districts investigate reports of child abuse or maltreatment. We visited four districts to determine whether their investigations were performed as required. We found that, in some investigations, the required actions either were performed late or were not performed at all. For example, in some instances, the preliminary assessment of the child's safety, which is supposed to be completed within a week, was not completed until nearly a year after the investigation began. We recommend that OCFS more closely monitor local district investigation activity.
