Accuracy of Selected School District Data

The State Education Department obtains extensive data from local school districts and publishes much of this data in reports that are used to allocate State aid to the districts and can be used by parents and policymakers to assess the performance of the districts. We examined the accuracy of the data submitted by six school districts and identified a number of errors. While none of the errors appear to be material, they are all attributable to internal control weaknesses that could result in material errors. We recommend a number of actions that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of such errors.
