Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

Efforts To Encourage Public/Private Partnerships

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation operates and maintains 152 parks and 35 historic sites. It is estimated that hundreds of millions of dollars will be needed to bring the infrastructure for these facilities up to date. To help raise this revenue, the Office is attempting to establish partnerships with the private sector. We examined the Office's efforts to establish such partnerships and found the good progress has been made. We commend Office officials for this progress and recommend certain improvements be made in the procedures used to identify, administer and monitor the partnerships.
