Systems Modernization Program (Follow-Up Review)

In 1984, the Department of Taxation and Finance initiated a project to modernize its automated systems. In our prior audit report 93-S-3, we found that systems for tracking tax audits and accounting for tax payments were modernized as intended; however, the system for processing tax return information may not have been modernized as intended. We recommended certain improvements in Department procedures for evaluating system development efforts and accounting for the costs of such efforts. In our follow-up review, we found that our recommendations have been fully implemented.
