State Insurance Fund
Insurance Claim Payment Activities The State Insurance Fund provides workers' compensation and disability benefit insurance coverage to about 45 percent of the employers in New York State. On a daily basis, the Comptroller's on-site audit staff examine insurance claims processed by the Fund. During the year ended December 31, 1997, the Fund processed about 3.2 million payments totaling about $1.6 billion. We audited about 23,000 payments totaling $354 million. Our audits prevented overpayments totaling about $1.0 million and underpayments totaling about $40,000. We also identified a number of claimants who owed outstanding child support payments; as a result of our efforts, about $448,000 was withheld from these claimants and paid toward their child support debts.
