State Aid Paid to New York City for School Health Services The health services provided to students in public schools are eligible for State aid. In New York City public schools, most of these health services are provided by the New York City Department of Health. We audited the State aid claims submitted by the New York City Board of Education for health services provided to students during the five years ended June 30, 1995. We found that the Board of Education was overpaid $9.2 million during this period, because some of the health services claimed for reimbursement by the Board were also claimed for reimbursement by the New York City Department of Health in State aid claims submitted to the New York State Department of Health. We recommend that the State aid overpayments be recovered and procedures be developed to prevent such overpayments in the future.
