Office for the Aging
Monitoring of Selected Programs The Office for the Aging promotes, coordinates and administers services for New Yorkers who are aged 60 or older. These services are provided by a network of 59 local agencies, many of which contract with not-for-profit providers. We examined the procedures used by the Office to ensure that the services are provided as intended and found that certain improvements are needed. For example, while local agencies report the services provided to the Office, this information is not verified, even on a test basis, by Office staff. In addition, Office staff do not determine whether the local agencies monitor their contractors as required. We recommend that Office staff more closely oversee the local agencies.
