Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

Contract with Bayside Historical Society

The contractor received funding to restore a historical building in Queens. We determined that a refund of $3,130 was due to the State from the $435,000 paid to the contractor, mainly because some of the expenses claimed by the contractor were not documented. We also determined that the contractor was not adequately monitored by the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. For example, Office representatives did not regularly visit the restoration site or review the progress of the restoration work. Since the restoration is not yet complete, we recommend that the Office more closely monitor the remaining restoration work.
