Student Food Services (Follow-Up Review)
Student food services at SUNY campuses cost more than $100 million annually. In our prior audit report 95-S-6, we examined the economy and efficiency of these services. We found that commodities could be purchased at lower prices if they were purchased off State contracts and if campuses cooperated and consolidated their purchasing efforts. Since most campus food services are provided by contractors, State law would have to be changed to allow the contractors access to State purchase contracts. In our follow-up review, we found that some progress has been made in implementing our prior audit recommendations.
