Metro-North Railroad: Productivity of Ticket Selling Operations (Follow-Up Review) Tickets for the Metro-North Railroad may be purchased through the mail, on the train or at certain passenger stations. The tickets at the stations are sold by either ticket vending machines or staff in ticket offices. In our prior audit report 94-S-93, we examined the deployment of the ticket vending machines and the ticket sellers and concluded that ticket selling operations might be more efficient if certain ticket vending machines were moved to different stations and if some ticket sellers were replaced by vending machines. In our follow-up review, we found that progress has been made in implementing our prior audit recommendations. However, additional progress is largely dependent on the success of Metro-North management in renegotiating the relevant labor contract.
