Controls Over Public Safety Staffing at Selected Campuses We examined controls over public safety staffing levels and overtime expenditures at five selected SUNY campuses: Buffalo College, Buffalo University, Purchase College, Stony Brook University, and the Health Science Center at Brooklyn. We found that the campuses could not document that their staffing levels were appropriate. We also found that, while a number of controls have been implemented to prevent unnecessary overtime expenditures, the overtime expenditures at the Health Science Center at Brooklyn may have been excessive. We recommend that consideration be given to using part-time or contract employees to reduce the amount of overtime worked at that campus. In addition, we found that some professional staff are assigned to duties that could be performed by lower-paid nonprofessional staff. We recommend that these duties be assigned to nonprofessional staff.
