Capital Program at Stewart Airport (Follow-Up Review)

Since 1983, the Department of Transportation has owned Stewart Airport, a former Air Force base in the Newburgh area. In our prior audit report 94-S-51, we examined the Department's oversight of capital projects at the Airport and found that improvements were needed. For example, contractors for capital projects were not always selected through an open competitive process and the progress of ongoing projects was not adequately monitored. We made several recommendations intended to strengthen the Department's oversight of capital projects at Stewart Airport. In our follow-up review, we found that all of the concerns identified in our prior audit have been addressed by Department officials. 96-F-26
