Wadsworth Center for Laboratories and Research: Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (Follow-Up Review)

The Environmental Laboratory Approval Program was established to ensure the reliability of the environmental testing performed by laboratories that either operate in New York State or test samples collected in New York State. To ensure this reliability, laboratories are certified to perform environmental testing by the Wadsworth Center for Laboratories and Research, which is administered by the Department of Health. In our prior audit report 94-S-40, we examined the Center's certification activities and found that improvements were needed in monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure that the laboratories were performing accurate environmental testing. In our follow-up review, we found that significant progress has been made in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report.
