Department of Social Services

Child Support Enforcement Program (Follow-Up Review)

The Department of Social Services oversees the efforts of local social services districts to collect child support payments from absent parents. In our prior audit report 94-S-89, we found that certain aspects of the Department's oversight could be improved. For example, we concluded that the Department's monitoring would be more effective if performance standards were established for various aspects of the collection efforts. In our follow-up review, we found that significant progress has been made by Department officials in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report. For example, Department officials have begun to develop a performance measurement system for assessing local collection efforts. 96-F-19
