Executive Correspondence

The Commissioner of the Department of Taxation and Finance receives official correspondence from taxpayers and other government officials on a wide variety of topics. We examined the Department's management of this correspondence and found that the correspondence was handled in a fair, objective and timely manner. We also found that the confidentiality of the correspondence was adequately protected. However, we also identified certain internal control weaknesses that need to be corrected. For example, the procedures for processing the correspondence should be formalized and the practices for accounting for the correspondence could be strengthened.
