Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
Selected Procurement Practices and
Contracting for Services (Follow-Up Review) The Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey operates bridges, tunnels, airports, marine ports, office complexes and
industrial parks in the metropolitan New York City area. In our prior audit reports 93-S-45
and 94-S-4, we examined the Port Authority's procurement and contracting practices and
concluded that the Port Authority could save millions of dollars annually by rebidding
contracts more frequently, administering contracts more effectively, and using different
purchasing practices. In our follow-up review, we found that all of our prior audit
recommendations have been fully implemented. Port Authority officials estimate that several
million dollars will be saved as a result of implementing these recommendations. We
commend Port Authority officials for their efforts.
