Technical Career Institutes

During the 1990-91 through 1991-92 academic years, Technical Career Institutes certified $19.5 million in Tuition Assistance Program and Supplemental Tuition Assistance Program awards. We disallowed $2,314,810 of these awards as well as $18,548 in awards that related to other academic years. The total $2,333,358 was disallowed because students were incorrectly certified as eligible for the awards. For example, some of the students who received awards were not in full-time attendance or did not maintain good academic standing. In addition, even though Supplemental Tuition Assistance Program awards are intended for students who are educationally disadvantaged, many of the students receiving these awards were not educationally disadvantaged. 93-T-9
