Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

State Parks Infrastructure Fund

The State Parks Infrastructure Fund, which is administered by the Office, was created in 1992 to address the deterioration of facilities at State parks and historic sites. The Fund is used to pay for both large rehabilitation projects performed by contractors and smaller rehabilitation projects performed by Office staff. We examined the administration of the projects performed by Office staff. We found that, because of weaknesses in estimating, monitoring and accounting for project costs, the actual cost of projects often exceeded the planned cost. We made recommendations for improving the Office's oversight of these rehabilitation projects. 95-S-33
