Department of Transportation
Construction Inspection Program (Follow-Up Review)
The Department inspects the work of its construction contractors to ensure that their workmanship and materials are acceptable. In our prior audit report 90- S-15, we identified inefficient practices and concluded that the Department often deployed more inspectors than necessary. We also noted that some consultant inspectors did not meet the minimum qualifications established by the Department. Our follow-up review found that good progress had been made by Department management in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report. For example, inspector deployment was more closely monitored and revisions had been made in the Department's practices for hiring consultant inspectors.
