Homebuyer Selection and Approval (Follow-Up)

The Affordable Housing Corporation (Corporation) is a unit of New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The Corporation administers the Affordable Home Ownership Development Program (Program). In the program, persons of low or moderate income can receive a grant to help with the purchase of a home. In audit report 2008-S-100, we audited a sample of 70 grants to determine whether Corporation grants were awarded in accordance with Program eligibility requirements. We found that some homebuyers who received grants were not eligible for them. We recommended certain actions be taken by the Corporation to improve its oversight of the grant award process. When we followed up with Corporation officials, we found that they made progress in correcting the problems identified in our initial report.
