Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority

Years of Double Dipping by Transit Police Officers

In July 2009, the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) received an anonymous letter detailing allegations that Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority supervisory police officers, as well as other officers, were being signed in for overtime while working a second job and were working triple consecutive shifts and no-show shifts. We followed up on the allegations and identified 11 officers “double dipping” over a three year period. In addition, most of the police officers involved were the top overtime earners within the department. We provided our findings to OSC’s Division of Investigations for referral to law enforcement for possible criminal prosecution.
