Long Island Rail Road: Recycling Program

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) operates a commuter railroad between New York City and Long Island. The LIRR is required to comply with certain recycling requirements specified in State law and Executive Order 4, which was issued in April 2008. We found that the LIRR was not fully complying with these requirements. For example, it was not source separating recyclable materials at its stations and was not recycling such materials left on its trains. We recommended that the LIRR take certain actions to bring it into full compliance with its recycling requirements.
