Compliance with Executive Order 134 - Environmental Impact of Cleaning of Facilities

The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) operates residential facilities for juvenile delinquents and juvenile offenders placed in the custody of OCFS by family and criminal courts. OCFS operates a total of 42 residential facilities and leases 16 other buildings. Executive Order 134 required all State agencies to procure and use cleaning products that minimize the potential impacts to human health and the environment. It also required the agencies to conduct an assessment of their programs to promote environmentally safe cleaning and transition to certain conforming products within specified time periods. We found that OCFS was not aware of, and was not in compliance with, the Executive Order. However, OCFS officials took steps to comply with the Order after our audit commenced.
