Internal Controls Over Selected Financial Operations (Follow-Up Report)

The State Insurance Fund provides workers’ compensation and disability benefit insurance coverage to many employers in New York State. In audit 2005-S-57, we examined the adequacy of the Fund’s controls over its computer equipment, payroll operations and vehicle management. We identified significant weaknesses in the controls over computer equipment, as numerous items either were not recorded on the inventory records or could not be located during our review. We also identified the need for improvement in certain aspects of the Fund’s payroll operations and vehicle management. When we followed up on these matters with Fund officials, we found that they had made significant progress in correcting the problems we identified.
