Department of Labor

Use of New Hires Database

Employers in New York State are required to report their new hires to the State. The Department of Labor regularly compares the names in this new hires database to the names of those receiving unemployment insurance. If the Department determines that anyone is receiving these benefits while they are employed, it recovers the unemployment insurance overpayments from the individuals. We audited the Department’s use of the new hires database and found that it was effective.
