Workers' Compensation Board

Ensuring Employer Coverage

The Workers' Compensation Law requires most employers to provide workers’ compensation coverage for their employees. The Workers' Compensation Board iss responsible for ensuring that employers comply with this requirement. We examined the enforcement actions taken by the Board and found that they were appropriate. We also found that the Board had recently enhanced its automated tracking system and, as a result, was better able to identify noncompliant employers. We further noted that the Board’s efforts could be even more effective if certain other improvements were made. We recommended that these improvements be made.
