Health Science Center at Stony Brook: Contract with Cannon Design The contractor was paid $10.4 million to provide architectural, engineering and construction management services on a construction project at the Health Science Center at Stony Brook. The project is part of a comprehensive $165 million renovation of the Centerís medical facilities. We examined whether the payments to the contractor were appropriate and found that they were. We also examined the Centerís administration of the contract. We found that certain improvements were needed in the Centerís administration of construction-related contracts. In particular, more effective planning was needed to prevent unnecessary redesign costs. We recommended that certain improvements be made in the Centerís contract administration practices.
