Department of Taxation and Finance

Written Support of Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting for Personal Income Tax Revenue

The Department of Taxation and Finance collects personal income taxes, which totaled more than $28 billion in the year ended March 31, 2005. The Department reports information about personal income tax revenue to the Office of the State Comptroller for inclusion in New York State’s comprehensive annual financial report. We audited the written support for the Department’s internal controls over this revenue and found that this written support was adequate. Consequently, if the controls are followed, there is a reduced risk of significant misstatements in the personal income tax information included in the State’s comprehensive annual financial report.
