Oversight of Health Care Reform Act Pool Disbursements

In accordance with the State’s Health Care Reform Act, the Department of Health assesses hospitals and insurers to obtain funds that are used to support various health-related programs, such as health insurance for children in low-income families, subsidized prescription drug coverage for the elderly, tobacco use prevention initiatives, professional medical education programs, and reimbursements to hospitals for costs incurred in providing care to the indigent. We examined the Department’s controls over the disbursements made with these funds and found that these controls provided reasonable assurance disbursements were made for their intended purposes.
