Department of Taxation and Finance

Information Technology Controls Over the Personal Income Tax System (Follow-Up Report)

The Department of Taxation and Finance uses its automated Personal Income Tax System to process and store sensitive taxpayer information. In audit report 2003-S-21, we addressed the Department’s disaster readiness for the processing and storing of this information, and its controls over data security. We found that, while extensive security controls had been implemented by the Department, certain improvements could be made. When we followed up on these matters with Department officials, we found that they had implemented most of our audit recommendations. Due to the sensitivity of these matters, our detailed audit findings were not included in either our original audit report or our follow-up report.
