Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives

Oversight of Alternative-to-Incarceration Programs in New York City (Follow-Up Report)

The Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives helps fund alternative-to-incarceration programs that are intended to reduce reliance on detention and incarceration. In audit report 2003-S-44, we examined the Division’s oversight of such programs in New York City and, in particular, evaluated the Division’s controls over payments to program providers. We identified certain overpayments and recommended that they be recovered by the Division. When we followed up on this matter, we found that some, but not all, of the overpayments had been recovered.
