Disability Advocacy Program: Contract with Legal Services for New York City (Follow-Up Report)

In the Disability Advocacy Program, which is administered by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), legal assistance may be provided to New Yorkers seeking federal disability benefits. The assistance is provided by contractors or local social services districts overseen by OTDA. In audit report 2002-S-28, we examined OTDA’s contract with Legal Services for New York City, which provides these services in New York City. We found that certain actions could be taken by OTDA that would provide greater accountability for the performance of the contractor. When we followed up to determine whether our audit recommendations had been implemented, we found that some progress had been made, but additional actions were still needed.
