New York City Transit: Rapid Transit Services for Persons with Disabilities (Follow-Up Report)

New York City Transit (NYCT) operates New York City’s bus and subway systems. In audit report 2001-S-69, we audited the efforts of NYCT to address the subway service needs of people with disabilities. We found that NYCT did little to monitor how the subway system was used by people with disabilities, and when we visited 30 stations, we observed various conditions that could limit the use of the subway system by people with disabilities. We recommended a number of improvements in NYCT practices. When we followed up to determine whether our audit recommendations had been implemented, we found that some progress had been made, but additional improvements were still needed.
