New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Inspections of Food Service Establishments (Follow-Up Review)

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is responsible for inspecting commercial facilities where food is prepared to ensure that the facilities comply with the City’s Health Code. In our prior audit report 2000-N-15, we found that the Department had not committed to writing many of the goals and requirements of its food inspection program, and did not perform timely follow-up inspections of facilities that failed their initial inspection. In our follow-up review, we found that Department officials had made progress in implementing the recommendations contained in our prior report.
